Mom’s Spaghetti Sauce

While over half the nation is gripped in a vortex of cold air, here is something bound to warm the kitchen and the body. Warm wave to mom who gave birth to this recipe and all the years of memories that go with it. Passing it to the next generation and now you my lovely friends. Enjoy!

Mom’s Spaghetti Sauce

1lb hamburger

4 cloves garlic minced

1 1/2 TBL dried basil

1/2 TBL dried Italian seasoning

1 quart whole tomatoes

1 quart v8 juice

1 quart water

1 12 ounce can tomato paste

1/4 cup red wine

1/2 cup sugar

salt to taste

Season hamburger with salt and brown in large pot breaking it into pieces as you go along with minced garlic. Add herbs and stir for a minute. Pour in tomatoes, juice, paste, water, wine and sugar. Turn heat to low and simmer stirring occasionally for an hour and a half until thickened and tomatoes are broken down and combined into the sauce. Taste and season with salt as needed. Serve over your favorite pasta. We love Barilla’s plus brand (yellow box).
